16 September 2021

For many students who started secondary school this September, it will be the first time they have travelled independently. At first, the journeys will be novel and require planning and attention, but soon they will become routine and familiar. Through this familiarity, students will start to use the roads on auto pilot, which can lead to dangerous distractions.

On Monday 13th September, we were delighted to welcome Performance in Education into school with their Streetwise programme. Our year 7 cohort watched a pedestrian road safety performance that used theatre to provide them with an engaging, learning experience. It highlighted the consequences of their actions on the roads, identify risky behaviours that need to be changed, and gave them strategies to reinforce this change through a follow-up workshop.

Performance in Education has been commissioned by Lancashire County Council Road Safety and is being delivered to secondary schools across Lancashire this September.

If you attended the Year 7 Welcome Evening, the powerpoint presentation from the evening can be viewed below.
